I have had the opportunity of testing the Dell XPS 1530 that, among other things, offers a 2, 00 GHz T7250 processor, 256 Mb Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, 2048 MB DDR2 RAM as well as a 15.4” screen size. The laptop mainly speaks to the light multimedia user, but because of its many different components it also has a very good all-around usage.
The laptop has an excellent design, weighs 5.9 lbs and includes very nice accessory. The product was kindly lent to us by Dell.dk

Pros
Best in class Laptop for $1000!!!

Very Low noise and operating temperatures.
Decent light weight compared to features below.
5047 PCMark05 benchmark score.

High quality materials used.

With latest driver from NVIDIA, motherboard and laptop temperatures recorded were very decent:

CPU: 34 degrees celcius (max: 59 degrees celcius), Fan: 3080 RPM
GPU: 45 degrees celcius (max: 70 degrees celcius)
Chipset: 42 degrees celcius (max: 54 degrees celcius)

Cons
Finger Print reader software from UPEK is quite slow at detection and it’s not practical.
Finish could have been a little teeny better - especially the way the battery area attaches to the keyboard area.

Additional Thoughts
Was surprised that Linux has almost all the drivers readily available and this is a versatile laptop with gaming capabilities.
One more USB port would have been nice but the laptop does have HDMI & S-Video output, 3 USB, 1 Firewire, 1 Gbps network port, 8in1 memory card reader, 1 Kensington lock and 1 media remote control.
