Asus logo One of the sleekest news toys in the fields of laptops at the latest CeBIT was undoubtedly Asus' luxurious new Eee PC 1018P. We take a quick look at it and its upcoming brothers, Asus Eee PC 1016P and 1015P, before bringing you a more thorough review in the near future.

The Eee PC series has lately been dominated by more or less the same sort of devices (particularly the Seashell design with rounded edges), but that ends with the Eee PC 1018P. For the first time ever, Asus are introducing an aluminium exterior to the Eee series, and it works really well here along with a more compact and professional design. That it is also the thinnest Eee PC to date at 18mm only enhances the impression.

But there are more goodies, such as the chiclet keyboard with extra space between the keys or the large touchpad. One of the best features is probably USB 3.0 though, which in theory means you can transfer files up to 10 times faster than with USB 2.0.

There are more news in terms of hardware than just USB 3.0, for example two brand-spanking new (and still not officially introduced) Atom processors from Intel, Atom N455 and N475. They are much like N450 (1.66GHz) and N470 (1.83GHz), but supposedly add DDR3 memory support. Besides that, the display (10.1 inches) runs a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and has 1GB of RAM, 160/250GB HDD, draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1, optional 3G, fingerprint reader and a battery lasting up to 10 hours.

As noted above, Asus also brought another couple of netbooks. Eee PC 1015P seems to be yet another Seashell device, but adds little new to the series besides one of the new Atom processors and a battery that should last an impressive 14 hours. Eee PC 1016P on the other hand looks more like 1018P with the same aluminium exterior and specs, although it seems you can upgrade to 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and get a larger battery that lasts up to 14 hours.
