hp logo HP has just introduced to new ultrathin notebooks of 13.3 inches each: the ProBook 5310m and the Pavilion dm3. The first is primarily aimed at business users and is marketed as "the world's thinnest full-performance notebook", while the other is aimed at standard users who require a reasonable combination of mobility, battery life, design and price.

TheProBook 5310m is based on an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the SP9300 clocked to 2.26GHz with 6MB L2 cache, or an SU2300 Celeron processor clocked to 1.20GHz with 1MB L2 cache. The latter is obviously less powerful but does have the advantage of being quite a bit cheaper and is not as hard on the battery. In addition to that it ships with up to 4GB DDR3 RAM, up to a 320GB 7200RPM hard drive or 128GB SSD and Windows 7 Professional/Home Premium.

Wireless connectivity includes 802.11 a/b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1 as well as optional 3G and GPS. Wired connectivity consists of 3x USB 2.0, DisplayPort, RJ45 (10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN) and a multi-in-1 card reader.

The whole thing is wrapped in sharp edges and a sleek, black aluminum exterior with a magnesium frame, giving it a starting weight of 1.72kg (with a 4-celled battery that should last for up to 7 hours). It also comes with HP QuickWeb, a separate OS that takes you directly to the internet and related applications.

The ProBook 53010m costs $899 with an Intel Core 2 Duo or $699 with a Celeron processor. It will be available frm October 22nd.

We do not have many details regarding the Pavilion dm3 (the product sheet they link to is down at the time of writing), but it is powered by either a dual-core AMD Neo pr Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and offers a choice between integrated or dedicated graphics in the form of an ATI or NVIDIA card.

If you opt for a dedicated GPU, you will be able to take advantage of PowerXpress which lets you switch off the dedicated GPU when running on battery. That will result in a battery life of over 10 hours. Other than that there is optional 3G and a hard drive of up to 500GB.

This notebook has a fairly good-looking design, partially made of brushed aluminum which gives it a starting weight of 1.93kg (including a 6-celled battery). The price starts at $549 for the AMD version and $649 for the Intel version, and both will be launched October 22nd.
