Toshiba logo Toshiba has just upgraded the NB100 netbook of 8.9 inches to a slightly larger 10 inch model called NB200. The resolution stays on the standard 1024 x 600 pixels, but luckily a larger display brings some other goodies with it...

The NB200 gets - among other things - a near full-size keyboard and an extra large touchpad which is greatly appreciated on any netbook, at least for longer periods of use which the NB200 is certainly made for. The new netbook can reach a battery life of up to 9 hours with an optional 6-celled battery (if you go for the 3-celled solution the battery life goes up to 3.5 hours); that should be plenty for a day at the office or school for example. With the smaller battery, the weight lands at 1.1kg.

The NB200 is based on Intel's Atom processor (nothing new here), but you can choose between the N270 or N280 versions at 1.6 and 1.66GHz respectively...not a huge difference, but at least you get to choose. You can also choose between Windows XP or Linux, but this affects more than the operating system; the Windows XP model comes with a 160GB hard drive and an as of yet unknown amount of RAM (presumably 1 or 2GB), while the Linux model only has an 80GB hard drive and 512MB RAM.

Networking options include 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and built-in HDSPA 3G (optional). The NB200 also comes with three USB ports and integrated webcam. Judging by the pictures, there's also a VGA port and some kind of card reader, and possibly built-in microphone. Full details should be released on the 28th of April though.

The NB200 will be available in Cosmic Black (smooth, glossy surface) and Satin Brown/White/Pink (textured surface). It should be on the shelves sometime in May, though you'll have to wait a couple of months extra if you want the pink version. The price starts at €355 (about £320) but can easily rise if you want the XP operating system, the larger battery, 3G and the faster N280 processor.
