Asus are currently showing off three new notebooks for their N series, which focuses on multimedia users and in particular audio lovers via their SonicMaster standard. The new devices range in size from 14 to 17.3 inches and come with Core i3/i5/i7 processors and USB 3.0 ports, among other things.
Asus have put a lot of effort into the design of the new models, which is quite clear from the moment you lay eyes on them. There is dark, brushed aluminum on the palm rests and more of it (although in a lighter hue) on the lid. They have a slightly odd shape where the top and bottom parts connect, although that only serves to enhance the impression. See for yourself below.
Details are scarce at the moment, though Asus have proclaimed all three devices live up to the SonicMaster standard. It is Asus' own standard for audio on laptops, and there are three levels. The lowest level just guarantees optimal sound when it comes to voice and speech, so it should serve as a useful benchmark for e.g. business users who like to partake in video conferences.
The next to levels promise progressively better audio in music and films, especially when it comes to vocals and bass. There are no requirements as such when it comes to hardware - what matters is the final and overall audial experience. In this case though, the sound is delivered by B&O ICEpower.
Specs (not quite official yet, so the following may change) include one of Intel's new Core processors, GPU from Nvidia with Optimus, DVD player (possibly Blu-ray) and Windows 7 Home Premium. Apparently N63 will get 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It also has a 16 inch display (1366 x 768 pixels) while N73 is a 17.3 incher (1600 x 900 pixels). Connectivity and I/Os include draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, eSATA, USB 3.0 (up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0).
Other features include Asus Express, a Linux Splashtop-based OS that provides swift access to the internet and related applications for the times you do not want to start up Windows 7, fingerprint reader and dedicated multimedia buttons.
