Packard Bell logo Packard Bell will soon be launching a new notebook series in Europe dubbed EasyNote M. It will consists of models with screen sizes of 14, 15.6 and 17.3 inches, respectively. Focus seems to be on the multimedia user, with features such as Blu-ray and dedicated graphics.

There is little in the way of specifics, though Packard Bell do note you will be able to get either and ATi or Nvidia GPU, so expect a pretty good selection. Whether you also get Nvidia Optimus (automatic swtich between IGP and GPU to optimise performance vs. power consumption) in case a Nvidia card is chosen is unknown, but you can always hope.

All devices will be powered by an Intel Core 2010 processor - again details are scare, so expects several different configurations with Core i3/i5/i7. Other specs include up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a hard drive with a capacity of up to 640GB, plus an optical drive (either dual-layer DVD burner or Blu-ray).

There should be an HD display in all three, but that can mean anything between 1366 x 768 and 1920 x 1080 pixels. Getting the latter on any but the largest 17.3 inch model is probably unrealstic and even then chances are slim. However, you can always hook the device up to your HD TV via HDMI.

Besides focusing on multimedia - which is also reflected in the dedicated multimedia buttons like play, stop, previous/next - EasyNote also tries to cater to social networking types. Among other things, it features a "Social Networks" button that you can use to gain immediate access to your Facebook/myspace/Flickr account from the desktop. There is also an integrated microphone and webcam for those video conferences.

The EasyNote M series should be available sometime in May. Specifications and price will vary by region.
