And then a fifth Classic notebook from MSI arrived within the past 10 days, this time a larger, 17.3 inch device by the name of CR720. The new notebook is marketed as a classic device with "outstanding entertainment capabilities".
With that, MSI seems to refer to CR720's large, LED-backlit display that runs an HD+ resolution (1600 x 900 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio), plus the fact that it has two speakers of "high quality" and a subwoofer. What it lacks, then, is a Blu-ray drive (or at least the option) and some dedicated multimedia buttons, but such things are too extravagant for the Classic series, so it has to make do with a DVD Super Multi drive.
CR720 is based on an Intel Core i3/i5 processor (a number of different ones to choose from) combined with some integrated GMA HD graphics. MSI does have a tendency to introduce a model by the name of CX*** with a dedicated GPU afterwards, so we expect that to happen here as well. Otherwise you get up to 4GB DDR3 800/1066MHz RAM and a 160/250/320/500GB hard drive with the Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
Connectivity amounts to 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet LAN and optional Bluetooth V2.1. If we look at ports and such, there is HDMI, D-Sub, 3x USB 2.0, audio jacks and a 4-in-1 card reader - in other words it has all the essentials, but it is a meager selection when you consider the size.
However, that does seem to be what the Classic series is all about; cutting off all the non-essentials. That is also reflected in the special features (or lack thereof) you find in CR720 - the only thing of note is really the 1.3MP webcam, and even that is becoming fairly standard.
CR720 weighs about 3kg (including a 6-celled battery). No word on pricing or availability.
