The oft-mentioned EeeKeyboard was first shown off at CeBit last year, and back then it was expected to launch in the following June. That was moved to July, then August and later October, and we ended up with a very sceptical attitude and dismissed the product as nothing more than a flight of fancy. We were wrong.
The Asus EeeKeyboard PC is a very interesting concept - it is basically a keyboard filled with netbook-like hardware, spcied up with a small, 5 inch multi-touch display and Ultra Wideband (UWB).
The latter can be used to wirelessly connect the EeeKeyboard to a projector or HDTV, and so the device can act as both a remote control and multimedia centre. The keyboard has a range of five meters and supports HD (720p) video playback. If you do not mind the cables you can use HDMI or VGA instead.
The small display is primarily used as a touchpad but also has other functions. You can create quickstart icons for websites and applications, and even use it to select music from your playlist.
EeeKeyboard PC is made of aluminium and has ample space between the keys. It may weight a little more than normal at 1.1kg, but then again you do get a fully functional computer that also features integrated microphone and speakers.
