Asus have announced a new convertible netbook by the name of Asus Eee PC 101MT, the first Eee PC to feature a multi-touch screen. Like all other Eee PCs this is a fairly small device at 10.1 inches, and like other netbooks, the specifications are far from surprising.
It does stand out by way of the display, though. The 10.1 inches, LED-backlight and 1024 x 600 pixels resolution are normal enough, but at least it has the multi-touch display. That includes the standard array of multi-touch functions you find on such devices, including zoom, rotate, scroll and so on. If you prefer writing directly on the screen, there is also a stylus for that very purpose.
Eee PC 101MT is based on Intel's Pine Trail platform with an Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz) and either the Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium OS. If you go for the former you also get 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, whereas the latter includes 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. There is also 500GB of online storage (complementary for exactly one year).
Otherwise you get the standard connectivity like 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR and Ethernet LAN. Likewise Eee PC 101MT features the standard array of I/Os like VGA, 3x USB 2.0, RJ-45, a couple of audio jacks and a multi-in-one card reader that supports MMC/SD(HC) formats. Not an exceptional package by any means, but it gets the job done.
Other things of note include a 0.3MP webcam plus an integrated microphone and a 35Whr Li-polymer battery that can last for up to 6.5 hours. The device weighs in at 1.3kg with dimensions of 264mm (W) x181mm (D )x 31mm (H) and comes in either white or black.
No word on pricing or availability at this time.
