MSI have churned out another couple of Classic notebooks this week, namely CX420MX and CX620MX. They are identical in all but size - the former coming in at 14 inches, the latter at 15.6 - and focus on the multimedia segment.
They have each been given a dedicated GPU to serve such needs, in the form of ATi's brand new Radeon HD 545V (512MB DDR3 RAM). It is supposedly based on the old Radeon HD 4500 series, consisting of lower to middle class cards.
That should be plenty for mainstream gaming like World of Warcraft, but you will probably have to skimp on the details for newer and more demanding games. If you are just into movies and whatever else falls into the multimedia category, you should have little to worry about.
The two are of course powered by one of Intel's new Core 2010 processorers - which one is not specified, so we assume there are several SKUs. It should be noted that you also get Intel's integrated graphics, and MSI's GPU Boost technology provides switchable graphics. That means a press of the button can turn off the ATi card so it does not leech away at the battery.
Otherwise you get DDR3 1066MHz RAM (2 SO-DIMM slots), 250/320/500GB hard drive, Super-Multi DVD drive and draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1, Ethernet LAN and Windows 7 Home Premium. Pretty much the same as other recent Classic notebooks, although the ATi GPU will probably make them a bit cheaper than e.g. the CX623.
Having said that, we still do not know what the prices will look like. The larger CX620MX weighs about 2.5kg while the smaller CX420MX has 2.2kg to throw around.
