Today LG presented their first 3D notebook, R590, a 15.6 inch device made for multimedia use and - to a lesser extent - gaming. To get the 3D effect you will need to wear the bundled polarised glasses.
That is not always particularly practical, but at least the design has come a long way and is a fair bit more neutral than on the cardboard glasses from the olden days with blue/red lenses. R590 comes with TriDef software, which allows you to convert 2D movies and pictures into 3D, which you can enjoy on the HD+ (1600 x 900 pixels) display.
It appears the notebook will come in several different SKUs - you can see on LG's website that the R590 is powered by an Intel Core i5-540M processor (dual-core, 2.53GHz or 3.066GHz via Turbo Boost, 3M cache), but that is apparently just the base configuration. It should be possible to upgrade to a Core i7, up to the Core i7-820QM (quad-core, 1.7GHz or 3.06GHz via Turbo Boost, 8M cache).
It also comes with either a Nvidia GeForce GT 230M (1GB) or GT 335M (1GB) GPU. There should not be a major difference in performance between the two; both can be described as middleclass and should only be able to handle more demanding games at medium or lower graphical settings.
Otherwise there is a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM along with Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, integrated webcam, WiFi and DVD drive. There is also a Blu-ray option, however.
Where exactly the price will land is as of yet unknown, however the South Korean price is equivalent to $1,314.00. It should be available around the world in August.
