HP logo It seems someone at HP has leaked an internal slide that compares their upcoming Slate tablet with Apple's iPad. It notes the areas in which the Slate is superior to the iPad and vice versa, but most interestingly we get the full list of specs.

Slate is based on an Intel Atom Z530 processor (1.6GHz, 512K cache, 533MHz FSB) and features integrated graphics plus an accelerator that allows it to play 1080p full HD video. Basically it scores its first couple of points against the iPad here, as that device does not have such features.

Otherwise you get 1GB of DDR2 RAM as well as 32 or 64GB flash storage - the iPad can be configured with the same, but the Slate also has an SD card reader so you can expand with up to 128GB. It has a 2-celled 30Whr battery that lasts for up to 5 hours, which is only half that of the iPad. If you are neutral regarding OS and branding, this is the greatest weakness of the Slate.

Another point where the Slate cannot quite keep up is connectivity - sure it has Bluetooth, 3G and GPS, but only 802.11 b/g WiFi where the iPad also gets the draft-N standard. However, it is superior when it comes to I/Os with a USB 2.0 port, card reader and HDMI.

The device has an 8.9 inch display, running a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. This is slightly lower than the 1024 x 768 pixels of the iPad, but at least it has all the same features (ambient light sensor, accelerometer, multi-touch) plus a little extra in the form of digitizer/pen support so you can write on it.

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, supposedly with touch-optimised user interface designed by HP. There are also two webcams: an inward-facing VGA for Skyping and such, and a 3MP outward-facing cam for taking pictures.

HP Slate will cost some $549-$599 while the iPad costs $499-$829, depending on configuration.
