HP logoHP has launched a new notebook for the businessman (or woman) who wants a visually appealing device to lug around. G62t is a relatively large workhorse at 15.6 inches with hardware that should be able to handle most standard tasks and then some.

The new HP is based on an Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor - the basic model sports an Intel Core i3-330M dual-core (2.13GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) while the most powerful comes with an Intel Core i7-620M dual-core processor (2.66GHz - up to 3.33GHz via Turbo Boost, 4MB L3 Cache). In addition to the difference in clock frequency and cache, one should keep in mind only the better Core i5s and Core i7 CPUs have all the new Core features.

Otherwise they base configuration consists of 3GB of DDR3 RAM (it supports up to 8GB with two SO-DIMM slots though) and a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive (but again you can upgrade to a higher capacity of up to 500GB). G62t sports integrated graphics from Intel that sadly cannot be swapped out for a dedicated GPU, so if you are into gaming or the like, this notebook is not for you.

It should be decent for the odd movie though - the display is comfortably large at 15.6 inches (1366 x 768 pixels), and the notebook can be configured with a Blu-ray drive (the standard model only features a SuperMulti DVD drive though). If you want to connect it to your flatscreen TV, you can get an optional HDMI port (the base model only comes with a VGA output).

Other features include draft-N WiFi, optional Bluetooth, integrated webcam and mike along with optional Computrace LoJack that can be used to track the computer in the event of e.g. theft, as well as remotely delete data on the hard drive.

G62t weighs 2.5kg and starts at $599.
