MSI logoToday MSI announced their newest addition to the GE series, the GE600. The GE series is a sort of combination of the Gamer and Entertainment series, so there should be focus on both the audio-visual experience and gaming here.

GE600 is based on one of Intel's new Core i5 processors (which one is unspecified, so as per usual there will probably be a few to choose from) and has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5730 GPU (1GB DDR3 VRAM), a very decent card that should be able to handle most newer games at medium or higher graphical settings. It is also DirectX 11 compatible.

It also sports MSI's GPU Boost technology, which is MSI's take on a graphics-switching solution allowing you to switch between the dedicated and integrated (that all new Core i processors are bundled with) GPU. As such you can always choose whether you want to optimise battery life or graphical performance - all it takes is the push of a button. The solution is not quite as elegant as Nvidia's new Optimus in which the process is automatic, but at least it is not rocket science.

Other hardware includes DDR3 RAM (once again they fail to mention how much, but there are 2 SO-DIMM slots), 250/320/500GB hard drive and a standard 6-cell battery (9-cell optional). The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. To handle the audial aspect, MSI have fitted it with two "Theater Class speakers" and a subwoofer at the bottom, but there is also an SRS Premium Sound 7.1-channel output if you would rather use your own sound system.

Otherwise you get the standard array of connectivity and ports like 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, Ethernet LAN and modem, HDMI, VGA, 3x USB, eSATA plus 4-in-1 card reader and of course audio jacks. There is also a 730p webcam and touch buttons to control multimedia and such.

The notebook measures 16" (HD LCD display) and weighs 2.7kg. MSI write a lot of nice things about the design comprised of black, gold and silver, but they strangely enough neglected to include a picture. No word on price or release date yet.
