Fujitsu logo Fujitsu are now adding a couple of notebooks to their LifeBook lineup. A530 and AH530 are primarily made for day-to-day computing and office use with the appropriate specs, but you can also fit them with some more powerful hardware if desired.

The basic models come with a paltry Intel Celeron P4500 processor (1.86GHz, 2MB cache), but you can upgrade to one of the newer Core 2010 CPUs, up to a Core i7-620M (2.66GHz, 4MB cache) with both Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost (overclocks to 3.333GHz).

The display measures 15.6 inches and runs an HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels - it is also LED-backlit and is either glossy or anti-glare, a choice we consumers really do not get as often as we deserve. Otherwise there is up to 8GB of DDR3 1066MHz RAM and several different hard drives with a capacity of up to 500GB.

One of the things you cannot do much about are the graphics, which comes from Intel. That is rarely worth much, so gamers and multimedia enthusiasts should probably skip LifeBook A(H)530 altogether. You do get a DVD drive though, as well as a battery that should last up to four hours and the Windows 7 OS.

There is also draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, Gigabit Ethernet LAN and optional 3G. I/Os include HDMI, VGA, 3x USB 2.0, ExpressCard slot and a 4-in-1 card reader. Note bad at all, but it would have been nice with the new USB 3.0 standard - why must it take so long to implement it?

Though there is not exactly a cornucopia of special features, there are some worth mentioning include an integrated webcam (1.3MP) and microphone for those video conferences, plus a spill-resistant keyboard. The latter is something you just do not appreciate until you have broken at least one laptop by spilling your coke in it.

LifeBook A530 (matte black) and AH530 (black) weigh 2.5kg. As always the maker refuses to divulge price and availability.

Just got mine yesterday , I was very excited at first , but as usual the speakers are not the very best . Then I turn on the camera and find out that the camera is worst than expected .
Overall good for day to day use , but not for someone that likes to listen to music and chat online . When I purchased my first Fujitsu , 4 yrs ago , it was the best computer and it was all made in Japan , but now they are all cheaply made will disappoint you .
