Fujitsu logoFujitsu have discreetly added a new convertible tablet to their website called the LifeBook T900. The new device offers an interesting combination of performance, mobility and functionality in a 13.3 inch package, but this is sadly reflected in the starting price of just under $2000.

LifeBook T900 is based on an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor, up to a  Core i7-620M (dual-core, 2.66GHz, 4MB cache). It has all the fine new functions of the new Core platform, including Hyperthreading and TurboBoost which optimise performance in both single- and multi-threaded applications via overclocking and virtual cores.

Besides the Core i5/i7 processor, the device sports some integrated graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 1066MHz RAM, up to a 500GB 7200RPM HDD or 128GB SSD along with Windows 7 Professional (32 or 64 bit) and a DVD drive. T900 also has the basic connectivity array like draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1, Modem and Gigabit Ethernet LAN, plus all the I/Os you might expect and then some, such as ExpressCard and Smart Card slots and a docking port.

The special features mostly relate to security, such as optional hard drive encryption (featured by default on the SSD model), free-fall sensor on the hard drive, fingerprint reader, Computrace so you can track the device, and some software from Fujitsu to top it all off. The spill-resistant keyboard and optional 2MP webcam also deserve a mention.

LifeBook T900 has, as noted above, a 13.3 inch display. Since it is a tablet you can write directly on it, and if that is a feature you really want to take advantage of, you can always go for the model with multi-touch. The display runs a resolution of 1280 x 800, but you can get that up to 1600 x 1200 if you are not averse to using an external display via VGA.

T900 has a 6-celled 5800mAh battery that lasts for up to 5 hours; if you want more, you can swap out the DVD for an extra battery, resulting in a battery life of up to 8 hours and 15 minutes. The weight is 2.17kg.

For now, the T900 is only available in the US.
