Fujitsu have launched quite a sizeable notebook that falls in the so-called desktop replacement category. The name is LifeBook NH570m and at 18.4 inches and about 3.6kg, it can easily take up some of the space your old desktop will leave behind.
As is appropriate for a device in the segment, LifeBook NH570 is rather powerful with an Intel Core i5-430M dual-core processor (2.26GHz - 2.533GHz via Turbo Boost, 3MB cache). It is not the best of the new Core i3/5/7 series, but it should be plenty for most. It is accompanied by 4GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 5400RPM hard drive.
Graphics are handled by a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU, a pretty fair graphics card that can be described as middle-class. That means it should be able to handle most games at either medium or high graphical settings, and at worst at low settings.
The card supposedly supports NVIDIA's new Optimus technology (Optimus is a graphics-switching solution that handles the switch between integrated and dedicated GPU automatically so as to optimise the battery life vs. performance trade-off at all times), but it does not seem to have been implemented in the LifeBook NH570.
Otherwise the notebook sports that 18.4 inch LED-backlit display which runs a 1680 x 945 pixel resolution - it would have been a tade more interesting if they had opted for 1080p full HD, but that is that. You also get a DVD drive, 8-celled battery (14.4V, 5200 mAh) and Windows 7 Home Premium.
Connectivity and ports include 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN, HDMI, eSATA, 3x USB 2.0, ExpressCard slot and 2-in-1 kortlæser. Other features are an integrated webcam and microphone plus a spill-resistant keyboard.
The Fujitsu LifeBook NH570 starts at $1,199.
