The people over at Engadget have gotten their hands on some leaked information regarding a new tablet called Looking Glass. It supposedly features a 7 inch display, the Google Android OS and the next-generation Nvidia Tegra platform.
The latter is a SoC (system on a chip) that integrates CPU (1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-AP9 MPCore), GPU and memory controller on a single die. The idea is to provide excellent graphical performance at a low battery draw. Tegra 2 can, among other things, handle playback of full HD video, 3D graphics and Flash acceleration.
According to Nvidia, Tegra 2 allows 16 hours of HD video playback or 140 hours of music (display off). Of course this depends on the rest of the system and how large a battery you have - Dell Looking Glass has a 2100mAh battery and an expected battery life of circa 5 hours.
The display measures 7 inches as noted above and is of course touch-enabled, but it runs a slightly disappointing resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Other specs include 4GB of DDR2 RAM and 4GB of storage which can be expanded via SD card (up to 32GB).
Otherwise there is 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v3.0 + EDR, 3G and A-GPS. I/Os include USB, audio output and SD/SDHC/MMC card reader. There is also a 1.3MP webcam, accelerometer and e-compass.
Looking Glass weighs only 500g and is just 12.75mm thick, so the device is really quite mobile. It should be available in November, though the price is unknown.
