ASUS logo ASUS have just announced their newest Eee PC, a small 10 inch netbook dubbed Eee PC Seashell 1008HA, designed with "one of nature's most beautiful designs" in mind, the seashell. Though it might be a slight exaggeration to say that it actually looks like a shell, the Eee PC Seashell still comes across as a beautiful little computer with clean, white lines and soft curves.

The "shell" is of course a glossy white, and made in a material which provides extra protection against scratches and the like. It is adorned with small, reflecting specks which "glisten in the sun like fine grains of sand on the exterior of a seashell". ASUS's marketing division have really stepped up their game for this one, and it only gets better: "like prying open an oyster to find the treasure within, you open the beautiful curved lid to find a 10 inch LED-backlit WSVGA glare-type display".

All the talk is there for a reason though, and it does manage (to a certain extent) to divert your eyes from a rather important detail: the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA is just like all the other 10 inch netbooks on the market on the inside. It is powered by an Intel Atom N280 processor, has Windows XP Home or the GNU Linux operating system, 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a 160GB hard drive (it stands out a little here by having a 10GB online hard drive). If this seems familiar to you, you're absolutely right.

In terms of wireless communication, it offers the 802.11 b/g/n standards for WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and that's enough for most users. Connectivity options amount to 1x VGA mini port, 2x USB (too few really, but normal for netbooks), 1x RJ-45, 1x card reader (MMC/SD/SDHC), and of course sound in- and out jacks.

Other than that, the Eee PC Seashell offers a 92% of full-size keyboard, integrated 1.3MP webcam, integrated digital array microphone, stereo speakers and a Lithium-polymer battery which provides a battery life of up to 6 hours thanks to Super Hybrid Engine that constantly monitors which programs are running and ensures that they are supplied just the right amount of power so as to optimize battery life and performance.

The dimensions are 262mm (W) x 178mm (D) x 18~25.7mm (H), and it weighs 1.1kg. The Eee PC Seashell will be available in six colours: White, Black, Blue, Pink, Saphireblue and Rubyred. Availability and pricing are as of yet unknown.
