asus logo Today Asus announced a new Eee PC Seashell netbook, made in collaboration with the designer Karim Rashid. Not surprisingly, focus is on design - which is both good looking and unique - in which texture plays a large part. However, Asus did not make any sacrifices when it comes to hardware, as the device sports both Intel's new Pine Trail platform and Microsoft's Windows 7 OS.

The shell itself is heavily textured with waves, something Asus calls Digi-Wave. It looks quite nice and should even provide added protection. The other layer is made of rubber piant, giving it an organic feel.

The netbook comes in either a very glossy pink or a more matte coffe brown with some gold glitter here and there. Both sport a sleek chiclet-style keyboard and an "invisible" touchpad integrated into the palm rest.

Eee PC Seashell Karim Rashid Collection (or just 1008P) has the following specifications:

- 10.1 inch (1024 x 600 pixels) LED-backlit display
- Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz, 512Kb L2 cache)
- 1GB DDR2 RAM
- 250/320GB HDD plus 500GB online storage (first year free)
- Windows 7 (probably Starter edition)
- Li-polymer battery (providing up to 6 hours of battery life)
- 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, Ethernet LAN
- 1x Mini VGA, 2x USB 2.0, audio jacks, multi-in-1 card reader
- Integrated 1.3MP webcam and digital array microphone
- Weight: 1.145kg

Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing is really missing either (we sometimes see OEM's skimp on hardware when making designer netbooks). It is also worth mentioning the device comes with Express Gate, a separate Linux-based OS that provides swift access to internet and multimedia-related functions.

As for pricing and availability, Asus have been quiet so far.
