asus logo An insider has leaked Asus' roadmap for the Eee PC series of netbook. It details what will happen to some of the product, for example if they are to receive an upgrade or be phased out, but most interestingly talks about the new NVIDIA Ion-based netbook dubbed 1201NE.

The new netbook is a 12 incher as you can probably deduce from the name, and it combines an Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) processor with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphical chip, which together create the Ion platform. NVIDIA promises Ion delivers up to 10 times better graphical performance than the conventional Atom platform with integrated graphics from Intel, allows playback of full 1080 pixel HD movies, can run games like Call of Duty 4 and run the full Windows Vista/Windows 7 Aero interface.

Other than that the netbook offers a 250GB hard drive, 2GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, Bluetooth, 802.11 draft-N WiFi and a 6-celled battery. We currently do not know what kind of resolution the display will be running, but with Ion it will probably be something like 1366 x 768 or 1280 x 800 pixels. Expect an HDMI output as well.

The Eee PC 1201N will be launched in October at a starting price of $499, a fair bit above the average $300-$400 price tag on netbooks.

Asus' roadmap also talks about the Eee PC Seashell 1101HA - released only recently - getting phased out in October. The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-P (HA-H in Europe) gets an upgrade in October, going from a 160GB hard drive and Windows XP to a 250GB hard drive and Windows 7. The Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-M - sporting an anti-glare display - gets a smaller upgrade and goes from Windows XP to Windows 7 Starter.

Lastly, a couple of tablet news: T91MT (a multi-touch version of the T91) will be launched at an unknown date and offers, among other things, a 32GB SSD at a starting price of $549. The T101P is also mentioned, but there is little info on it except that it will also come with Windows 7, the upcoming Intel Atom platform codenamed Pine Trail and an Atom N450 processor sometime next year.
