Asus have added yet another Eee PC netbook for the series that cannot seem to stop growing. The latest addition, Asus Eee 1005PX, is almost standard fare when it comes to netbooks, but it does have one feature of the interest - the display.
It measures 10.1 inches, is LED-backlit and runs a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Nothing new there, so what makes it stand out? Unlike the majority of the netbooks and laptops you find on the market, it is anti-glare or matte, which means it will be much easier to read the display in sunlight.
Of course this is not the first time we see this, but if you are specifically looking for a netbook with such a display and perhaps like the Asus brand or design, it is certainly worth a look. It has little else to make it stand out, however.
The hardware is nothing out of the ordinary with an Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz, 512K cache) and GMA 3150 integrated graphics, 1 or 2GB of DDR2 RAM, 160/250/320GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter or Windows XP OS.
Connectivity and ports amount to draft-N WiFi, Ethernet LAN, optional Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR and VGA, 2x USB, MMC/SD(SDHC) kortlæser as well as audio jacks. There is also a 0.3M webcam with integrated microphone, along with a 6-celled 48Whr Li-ion battery that should be good for up to 8.5 hours.
Eee PC 1005PX weighs 1.27kg (with battery) and will be available in black, white, red, blue and pink upon launch, at a date and price which are both unknown at the time of writing.
