Update: netbooksnews.de has gotten their hands on a couple of pictures of the two new netbooks (check them out at the bottom). Both sport the familiar Seashell design and come in either black, white or blue, so little has changed on that front in relation to earlier models.

They also received a bit more information regarding the specifications, however. Both Eee PC 1005E and 1005P come with a 6-celled battery that should last for up to 12 hours. The 10.1 inch displays run a standard resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

In addition to the three USB ports, both devices come with a card reader (SD/MMC) and VGA output, along with a couple of audio jacks. The webcam is a 0.3MP kind. In terms of connectivity, both have 10/100 Ethernet LAN and 802.11 b/g WiFi.

A british e-tailer, Lambda-tek, has added a couple of new Asus Eee PC netbooks to their website. Asus Eee PC 1005P and 1005E are both based on Intel's upcoming Pine Trail platform, the next generation of Atom.

The Pine Trail platform is a 2-chip system that integrates the IGP into the processor, which should increase both performance and battery life, as well as make it cheaper to produce.

Apparently the new platform will also support DDR3 667MHz RAM and two SODIMM slots. However, this is an upgrade that will not materialize until mid-2010 while Pine Trail is expected to be out in January.

But back to the new Asus Eee PC netbooks. 1005P are 1005E quite similar; both sport the Pine Trail platform with a Pineview processor, namely the Intel Atom N450 @ 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, a 10.1 inch display, Windows 7 Starter plus an integrate webcam and 3x USB 2.0 ports.

The two differ when it comes to the hard drive (160GB on the 1005P and 250GB on the 1005E) and the fact that 1005E also has Bluetooth. This naturally means there is a price difference: the 1005P starts at £243 while the 1005E is priced at £270.

When the two will be available is as of yet unknown, but Asus is to expected to officially introduce the new products at CES in January.
