According to allabouteeepc.com, Asus will soon launch what apparently will become the most powerful netbook on the market. Asus Eee PC 1215N will combine an as of yet unofficial Atom processor with the next generation of Nvidia's ION platform.
The processor should be a dual-core clocked to 1.5GHz, so it should be able to handle multitasking a fair bit better than existing Atom processors for netbooks, which all have just one core. This unnamed processor will also support DDR3 RAM, which uses less power than DDR2 - that should result in a slightly higher battery life.
Graphics are, as noted above, handled by Nvidia's ION 2 GPU. Advantages include full HD (1080p) video playback, full support of Windows 7 Home Premium as well as mainstream gaming (World of Warcraft, Spore and the like).
You would think such a GPU would hurt battery life, but the device also features Nvidia's Optimus technology. Optimus automatically switches between ION 2 and Intel's integrated solution, so if you are just surfing anyway, ION 2 will not suck away at the battery.
We do not know much more about the Eee PC 1215N, but it measures 12 inches and should be available some time in July at a price of around $550-$600.
