Asus has brought a few new netbooks to CeBIT in Hannover, which officially takes off tomorrow. Quite refreshingly, Asus Eee PC 1201PN, 1016P and 1018P do not just feature the same old boring specs but bring some news in the form of Nvidia's next-gen ION graphics and a couple of new Pine Trail processors from Intel.

Asus Eee PC 1201PN

The first new Eee PC boast a 12.1 inch LED-backlit display with an HD resolution (1366 x 768 pixels) and Intel's Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz). More interestingly though, it features Nvidia ION 2 or ION 2010 (or whatever Nvidia is going to call it when they officially introduce it this week) which unlike the earlier edition is a dedicated GPU.

It will supposedly come in two versions, with one being slightly weaker than the old ION while the other should be stronger - although which one can be found in Eee PC 1201PN is as of yet unknown. In either case, the netbook will feature Nvidia's Optimus technology which automatically switches between ION and the IGP from Intel, depending on whatever you are using the computer for. The goal is the constant optimisation of battery life vs. grapics performance.

Both versions support 1080p full HD, and since Eee PC 1201PN har en HDMI port, youcan always hook it up to your HD-TV. Otherwise you get 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive,  (500GB online, free for 1 year), a 6-celled 63Wh Li-ion battery plus draft-N WiFi and Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR.

Asus Eee PC 1016P

A smaller netbook at 10.1 inches (1024 x 600 pixels, possibly anti-glare display) that looks stunning in black, brushed aluminium. Can be configured with an Intel Atom N450 (1.66GHz) or N470 (1.83GHz) processor, and possibly one of the as of yet unofficial N455 or N475 (same speed as N450 and N470 respectively, but supposedly include DDR3 RAM support).

Eee PC 1016P also comes with Bluetooth v2.1 or the in theory eight times faster Bluetooth v3, 3G and a choice between three different batteries that can deliver a battery life from 5 to 14 hours at active use. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter.

Asus Eee PC 1018P

Looks quite a bit like 1016P and shares many of the same components. However, it does have a larger hard drive at either 250 or 320GB along with a fingerprint reader and the new USB 3.0 standard (up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0).

Eee PC 1018P also has a brushed aluminium exterior and a sleek chiclet-style keyboard. It is only 18mm thick, and a Li-polymer battery delivers a battery life of up to 10 hours.

We expect the full specs once CeBIT takes off.
