According to macles, Acer is about to launch a new netbook called Aspire One D255, which features Intel's new Atom D550 processor. That is is the first dual-core Atom CPU specifically designed for netbooks and should add a much-needed power boost to the small devices.
Atom D550 is clocked to 1.5GHz and has 512K cache per core, and also comes with Hyper-Threading which gives it two extra virtual cores. That should provide much better multi-tasking and greater performance in multi-threaded application.
The remaining specs are not too exciting: integrated GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of DDR3 RAM and up to a 250GB hard drive. The OS is Windows 7 Starter, but as macles are reporting Aspire One D255 has the same specs as Aspire One D260, there may be a dual-boot option with Googles Android.
Connectivity and ports are also as expected with draft-N WiFi, Ethernet LAN, 3x USB, VGA, audio jacks and 3-in-1 card reader. Standard fare for netbooks, even if it does not seem like much. There should be a Bluetooth 3.0 option though.
Other features include Acer's standard 0.3M Crystal Eye webcam, multi-touch trackpad, 10.1 inch display (1024 x 600 pixels) and a battery life of up to 8 hours (with a 6-celled battery).
If it like the Aspire D260, the weight should land at 1.25kg (inkluding battery), but nothing is official yet. As such we do not know much about pricing or availability.
