According to macles, Acer is on their way with a tablet edition of their 11.6 inch Timeline 1810T notebook. All in all it appears to be pretty much the same device with identical hardware, same ports and practically the same exterior. The new tablet will be named Timeline 1820P and will offer a multi-touch display and an updated OS: Windows 7 instead of Windows Vista.
Like the notebook edition, the Timeline 1820P is based on an Intel CULV Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4GHz, 3MB L2 cache) processor with the GS45 Express chipset and GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics. In addition to that it comes with 2GB DDR2 RAM, up to a 320GB 5400RPM hard drive and a 6-celled Li-ion battery. Not surprisingly, there is no optical drive.
The display is by and large the same as well - 11.6 inches with a WXGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels) - except for the fact you can write/draw in it. Plus, it will have multi-touch functions. As is standard for tablets, the display can be rotated and placed upside-down on the keyboard.
Connectivity is much the same and includes 802.11 b/g/draft-N WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, 3x USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, a couple of audio jacks (headphones/speakers/line-out with SPDIF), 5-in-1 card reader (SD/MS/MS PRO/MMC/xD) and an Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
The new hinge Acer has had to mount the display on increases the weight from 1.4 to 1.7 kg; somewhat of a shame, but tablets tend to weigh that little bit extra so it is not much of a surprise.
No word on price or availability yet, but it will have to launch after October 22nd and the release of Windows 7.
