Today saw the launch of Acer's latest Predator desktop, the AG7750. In the eyes of yours truly it looks mean - really damn mean. Others may find the design to be no less than wondrous, some may will think it undeniably cool and others will simply say it looks ugly.
Raising the lid at the front reveals a rather flamboyant orange that is only broken by optical drives and assorted ports/card readers. Whether that actually enhances the looks is an entirely different matter.
But design is just one aspect of a proper gaming rig. At least as important (and for most far more so) is the hardware, and it should satisfy most. You can get one of the newest Core i7 Extreme processor from Intel with up to 6 cores - each clocked to 3.33GHz and even more via Turbo Boost - with 12MB cache, up to 12GB of DDR3 1066MHz RAM and up to 2TB of storage via 4 hard drives of 500GB each.
When it comes to graphics, you can get a Nvidia GTX 470 (1280MB) GPU, a DirectX 11-compatible card that falls into the higher end of the spectrum. If you need more power, go ahead and add one more card. Not enough? Add another for a 3-way SLI setup.
That does not make you want to think about power consumption and raises all sorts of questions about heat issues, but the answer to that is liquid cooling.
The new Predator starts at $1,999.00. Expect to pay much more than that if you want all the best components.
